SMU is led by senior McKenzie Adams, who is sixth in the AAC in scoring, and leads the Mustangs with 18.0 points per contest. Both seniors, Adams and Perry, are also the only two that have started all 16 games for second-year head coach Travis Mays. The mustang's hold a 5-3 record when playing at home this season.

Wednesday's contest marks the 17th time the two teams have met in the all-time series that dates back to 2006. The Pirates lead the series 9-7. Macy holds a 6-3 all-time record against SMU. The last meeting between the two came on March 3, 2017, in the AAC Tournament where the Pirates fell 60-54.
