GREENVILLE, N.C. – With one meet under its belt, the ECU track and field program continues its indoor season this weekend at the Keydet Invitational in Lexington, Va. The event is scheduled for Jan. 19-20 at the Corps Physical Training Facility on the campus of the Virginia Military Institute.
Â
A total of 27 schools are expected to compete, including George Mason, Elon, Hampton, William & Mary, Norfolk State, Coastal Carolina, JMU, Radford, Virginia Tech, Liberty, UNC Asheville, VCU, Charlotte, NC State, Campbell and South Carolina State as well as a handful of NCAA Division II and III institutions.
Â
"Both squads are extremely excited to get the second meet of the year in this weekend," Director of Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Curt Kraft said. "The goal of both teams is to continue to get better each and every week. This is a two-day meet, which in a lot of ways simulates how our conference championships meet is conducted. A lot of our athletes will be doing events this weekend that they didn't do last weekend. Our sport emphasizes energy, momentum and enthusiasm so hopefully they bring that this weekend."
Â
ECU won five events in its season-opening meet last weekend when the Pirates traveled to Chapel Hill for the Dick Taylor Carolina Cup. Junior Stefano Migliorati won both the 800m and mile run while senior Galissia Cause broke the school record in the indoor shot put with an event-winning throw of 15.68 meters. Additionally, junior Hakeem Horton captured the long jump crown and senior Ryan Davis came away with the title in the shot put.
Â
Entering the weekend, Davis ranks second on the American Athletic Conference performance list in the weight throw while Migliorati is second in the mile and third in the 800m. On the women's side, sophomore Nuria Tillo-Prats sits second in the 800m, junior Grace Sullivan ranks third in the mile, senior Sarah Hamon is second in the 3,000m and Cause is listed second in the shot put.
Â
Following the Keydet Invitational, ECU will head back to Virginia to take part in the Liberty Kickoff in Lynchburg Jan. 26-27.
