October 31, 2018 | Women's Tennis
GREENVILLE, N.C. – There is just one tournament left in the fall season as the ECU women's tennis team heads to Chapel Hill for the Kitty Harrison Invitational.
Â
"The Kitty Harrison Invite is a great opportunity for us," said head coach Tom Morris. "We have an opportunity this weekend to play against some great opponents and we will have great and hard-fought matches. We're looking forward to another solid weekend."
Â
ECU will send seven players to Wilmington this weekend. Leading the way for ECU this fall has been Alisa Diercksen and Nastja Rettich. Diercksen leads the Pirates with a 7-4 singles record and is coming off a 2-1 performance at the Roberta Allison Fall Classic. Rettich is 6-2 during the fall and went 3-0 last week at the Coastal Carolina Invite.
Â
In their first collegiate season, both Martina Paladini-Jennings and Minette Van Vreden have racked up 4-2 records, as has sophomore Hsia Ho Chiao. Rounding out the Pirates who will compete this weekend are Nastja Rettich and Annija Veinsteina.
Â
In doubles, ECU has used 10 pairings so far this fall. The most successful have both involved Dierksen. The duo of Diercksen and Hofbauer is 3-0 after winning their doubles flight at the Roberta Allison Fall Classic, while the tandem of Diercksen and Rettich is 3-1.
Â
The Kitty Harris Invitational will get started on Friday, Nov. 2. The Pirates will match up with William & Mary, Charlotte and Virginia in singles matches and Michigan, NC State and Duke in doubles matches. Â Â
