
ECU Wraps Up 2018 Campaign Wednesday At Cincinnati

GREENVILLE, N.C. – ECU's season comes to a close Wednesday when it travels to Cincinnati for an American Athletic Conference match against the Bearcats at Fifth-Third Arena.

The Pirates put the wraps on their home schedule over the weekend, sweeping Memphis before falling in four sets to Tulane. ECU is 13-15 overall and 5-12 in league play with a young starting lineup that features two freshmen, three sophomores and two juniors.

Sophomore right side Bri Wood is the squad's leading scorer with 270 points and 234 kills while classmate and outside hitter Sydney Kleinman is right behind with 225 kills. Defensively, junior libero Maggie Hallow has put up 426 digs and is ninth in the conference with an average of 4.22 per set.

The Pirates look for their first road win in AAC play since knocking off Temple in four sets back on Oct. 7. ECU is 2-6 on the road against league opponents with wins at Connecticut and Temple as well as losses at Wichita State, Tulsa, Tulane, Memphis, USF and UCF.

GREENVILLE, N.C. – ECU dropped a 3-1 (20-25, 25-18, 16-25, 19-25) decision to Tulane in its home finale Sunday afternoon inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum. Senior setter Madison Clark notched a double-double on her Senior Day, picking up 10 assists and 10 digs. Sophomore right side Bri Wood also tallied a double-double with 10 kills and 15 digs while junior libero Maggie Hallow collected 14 digs of her own. Dayna Kern recorded a team-best 14 kills for the Green Wave and Kaylie McHugh paced the back row with 19 digs. Tulane (24-8, 12-5 AAC) committed 30 attacking errors but held a 59-39 advantage in kills while also out-digging ECU (13-15, 5-12 AAC) by an 82-67 count. The Pirates held the upper hand in total blocks 8.0-4.5 – holding the Green Wave well under its 2.53 blocks per set season average.

Scouting Cincinnati
Cincinnati defeated Tulane in five sets and swept Memphis last weekend to bolster its case for an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Bearcats are 24-7 overall and 14-3 in AAC play and will finish second in the conference standings. Jordan Thompson, a national player of the week honoree multiple times this season, is the country's leader in both kills (770) and kills per set (6.26). In the back row, Abby Williams is putting up a team-best 3.32 digs per set. Cincinnati leads the American Conference in hitting percentage (.271) while ranking second in kills per set (13.87) and assists per set (13.06). The Bearcats are 9-2 at home this season with five-set losses to Indiana and UCF.Â

The Cincinnati Series
Cincinnati defeated ECU in three sets earlier this season in Greenville to take a 12-3 lead in the all-time series. The Pirates downed the Bearcats 3-2 last year in Cincinnati on the way to a season series sweep.
