GREENVILLE, N.C. – In its last regular season meet before the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships, the ECU track and field program will compete in the Liberty Elite Invitational Saturday at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex in Lynchburg, Va.
Â
The meet is scheduled to kick off at 9 a.m. with the men's weight throw event. It will conclude Saturday at approximately 2:45 p.m. with the running of the men's and women's 4x400 relay.
Â
"This is our last tuneup before we head to the conference championships at the end of February," Director of Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Curt Kraft said. "There are still some events that we need to make some improvements on, and hopefully we can do that this weekend. As a staff, we feel very good about how confident the kids are competing at this point. The big focus this weekend is to compete hard and come out healthy. This weekend's meet will provide some good competition, so our kids will have an opportunity to improve."
Â
The women's team checks in at No. 13 on this week's United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Southeast Region ranking while the men's squad is slotted No. 17.
Â
Last week at the Sykes & Sabock Challenge Cup at Penn State, the Pirates faced top 25 teams and other regionally ranked opponents and ECU held its own against the stiff competition. The men placed second while the women took third.
