Monk Named to AAC All-Freshman Team

GREENVILLE, N.C. – ECU guard Lashonda Monk has been named to the American Athletic Conference All-Freshman team for the 2017-18 season, according to an announcement by the league office Friday afternoon.
The Greensboro, N.C. native has averaged a team-best 9.3 points and 3.75 assists per game in conference play. Monk is tied as the third leading rebounder for the Pirates with 3.8 rebounds in AAC contests. The freshman also ranks top-five in the conference in steals with 2.4 per game.

Monk recorded her first collegiate start on Jan. 27, at Cincinnati, where she notched 15 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals in ECU's 79-70 overtime win. She has started all eight contests since that game.

On Feb. 5 Monk became the second-ever Pirate selected as the American's Freshman-of-the-Week. The freshman averaged 19.5 points, 7.0 steals, 6.5 assists and shot 55 percent (15-of-27) from the field in ECU's wins over Wichita State and SMU. Along with being the team's leading scorer in the two contests, Monk recorded 10 steals in ECU's victory over SMU, which is second most all-time in single-game program history.
