Women's Tennis Secures Two Wins in Orlando

Orlando, Fla. --- The ECU Women's tennis (8-4, 1-1) team picked up two victories on Monday at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) National Campus. The Pirates began the day with a 7-0 win over Sacred Heart (2-6), before defeating St. Cloud State 6-1 in the night cap.

ECU's top duo of Lisa Hofbauer and Celia Ruiz set the tone for the day with an early 6-0 victory over Sacred Heart's No.1 pair of Brianne Lauria and Olivia Podsiebierski. Alisa Diercksen and Annija Veinstein secured the doubles point for the Pirates with a 6-1 score at the No. 3 doubles slot.

The purple and gold swept the singles matches with six-straight wins. Alisa Diercksen picked up the first win, with a 6-1, 6-0 score over Sabrina Navarro at the No. 5 spot. Ruiz, currently ranked No. 53, defeated the Pioneers top solo player 6-0, 6-1.

In the second match of the day, the Pirates won eight-of-nine matches over St. Cloud State. Sofia Anthony and Maria Gomez scored ECU's first win in doubles play, 6-1, over Samanth Fitzpatrick and Emma Hanegraf.
