CINCINNATI, Ohio  – The ECU track and field program heads to Cincinnati this weekend for the 2018 American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships. The event will be hosted by the University of Cincinnati May 11-13 at Gettler Stadium.
Â
The meet will be streamed live on Facebook through the American Digital Network.
Â
The Pirate women produced their best-ever showing in the meet last year, taking third place with 104.5 points. The men also turned in their top performance as a team in 2017, claiming fourth place with 109 points. Cincinnati is the defending women's team champion while nationally-ranked Houston has captured the last three team titles on the men's side.
Â
Coach Kraft's Take: "Both teams are very excited about the upcoming conference championships this weekend in Cincinnati. We had a team meeting Monday and I told the teams this is what we work for. We feel like we are rested and healed up and ready to compete hard. I also reminded them that we need to go into this both physically and mentally prepared to compete. Both teams feel very confident about their abilities to achieve the goals that they have set out to accomplish."

Selected Event Previews
Â
800-Meter (Men)
Pirate mid-distance runner Stefano Migliorati is in a good position to retain his 800-meter title, running the fastest in The American this year at 1:48.78 in April. His time is the only sub-1:49 mark in the conference this season and ranks 37th in the NCAA. Two Tulsa runners, Grey Howard and Robert Tully, have the next best times.
Â
Hammer Throw (Men)
A UConn competitor has taken the hammer throw title for the past three years, but ECU's Ryan Davis, who won the indoor weight throw, will look to change that this season. Davis leads the conference with his distance of 64.38 meters (211-3). His mark ranks 37th in the nation this year and bests returning 2017 champion Cameron Thompson of UConn's top mark this season.
Â
3,000-Meter Steeplechase (Women)
An event won by SMU three out of four years, a new conference champion will emerge in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, as Pirate Grace Sullivan leads the contenders with a conference-best time of 10:23.92. Temple will look to make a splash in this event, having a trio of athletes posting top-eight conference times.
Â
Discus Throw (Women)
UConn's Divine Oladipo is no stranger to the podium, posting top-three finishes in conference championship action, including a third-place discus throw finish at last year's meet. Her toss of 54.23 meters (177-54) at the historic Penn Relays leads the conference this year. ECU's Mohogany Baker, the defending American Champion in the event, owns the fourth-best performance in the conference this season. Mona Jaidi and Samantha Lenton of Memphis are No. 1 and 2 on the league's performance list, respectively.
Â
Up Next: The NCAA East Preliminary is slated for May 24-26 in Tampa, Fla.
