May 21, 2018 | Baseball
CLEARWATER, Fla. – ECU sophomore Bryant Packard has been named the American Athletic Conference Player-of-the-Week according to an announcement by the league office Monday afternoon.
Â
Packard batted .556 (10-for-18) on the week with two home runs, four RBI and eight runs scored. Against No. 22 UCONN in the series opener, Packard singled in the fifth inning to center field setting the program record for consecutive games with a hit (30) breaking Stephen Batts' 11-year old record. Currently he owns a 32-game hit and 37-game on-base streak.
Â
The Greenville native, who is tied for third in the nation with a .418 batting average, collected multiple hits in each of ECU's four games while hitting a pair of home runs in game one of a doubleheader against the Huskies (consecutive at-bats). With his two-run homer in the fourth inning, he collected his team-leading eighth game-winning RBI of the season.
Â
Packard is the second Pirate this year to earn weekly honors following Trey Benton's selection as AAC Pitcher-of-the-Week back February 26.
Â
ECU, who finished tied for third in The American, will open the 2018 AAC Championship as the No. 4 seed and will play No. 5 UCF on Tuesday, May 22 at Spectrum Field in Clearwater, Fla. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. (ET).
