
Packard And Poepping Named April Student-Athletes Of The Month

GREENVILLE, N.C.  – Sophomore outfielder Bryant Packard of the baseball team and freshman RHP Erin Poepping of the softball program have been selected the male and female Student-Athletes of the Month following an outstanding April athletically.

Packard scored 16 runs and posted six home runs, 24 hits 15 RBI, three walks, four doubles and two stolen bases during the month in leading ECU to a 10-6 record which included wins over Washington (twice), then No. 3 Duke and a road sweep at Memphis. He currently leads the American Conference and is eighth nationally with a .411 batting average. He also ranks second among AAC playes in slugging percentage (.682), third in on base percentage (.462), fourth in hits (62) and fifth in RBI (41).

Poepping earned a pair of AAC weekly honor roll designations during April as she recorded a 5-3 record, 3.10 earned run average and 25 strikeouts against just four walks in 40.2 innings of work. She turned in five complete games, including her second career solo shutout in a 5-0 victory over AAC opponent Wichita State April 28. Poepping was also solid in two wins over eventual conference regular season champion USF, limiting the Bulls to two earned runs in 10.1 innings while striking out four batters and walking none. ECU was the only team in the league this season to win a series from USF during the regular season.

The duo combined to complete 26 hours of community service during the 2017-18 academic year.
