GREENVILLE, N.C. — Both the ECU men's and women's swimming and diving teams have been named Scholar All-America teams based on their academic performance in the 2018 spring semester announced the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Tuesday.
Â
NCAA Division I, II, and III, as well as NAIA and NJCAA teams, are eligible for the distinction, which is awarded to all teams with a combined GPA of at least 3.0.
Â
The ECU women's squad has been named a Scholar All-America team for 18 consecutive semesters after it posted a team GPA of 3.60, which ranks as the highest among all Division I teams in North Carolina along with Gardner-Webb. Twenty-two members of the Pirates' roster posted over a 3.0 during the semester, including 19 with over a 3.5 and six with a perfect 4.0.
Â
They finished the year with a team GPA of 3.55, second-highest among all teams in the American Athletic Conference, which had each of its programs named to the list.
The ECU men posted a team GPA of 3.05 to join Cincinnati and Connecticut as American Athletic Conference teams recognized. Fifteen Pirates posted a 3.0 GPA with 10 student-athletes recording a 3.5 or better.
"I'm really proud of entire roster," head coach Matthew Jabs said. "They are a great example of what it means to be a student-athlete at ECU.
Â
"A special thanks to our student development office who provide our student-athletes with the tools and resources to reach their academic goals." Â
Founded in 1922, the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) — the oldest organization of college coaches in America — is a professional organization of college swimming and diving coaches dedicated to serving and providing leadership for the advancement of the sport of swimming and diving at the collegiate level.
