GREENVILLE, N.C. – Following an outstanding four-year career as a member of ECU's swimming and diving team, Vendela Norrman will join the program as a volunteer assistant coach, head coach Matthew Jabs announced Monday.
Â
"We are really excited to have Vendela on staff with us this season," Jabs said. "You will not find a finer example of what an ECU student-athlete is supposed to be. She is one of our all-time great Pirates both in the pool and out. Our young team (especially on the women's side) can learn a lot from her. Â She was everything you could ask for as a student-athlete, and I would expect no less from her in this new role."
Â
Norrman, who hails from Tyreso, Sweden, ranks as one of the Pirates' most decorated breaststrokers. The school record holder in the 200 breaststroke, she captured gold medals in that event at the 2016 and 2017 American Swimming & Diving Championships and finished third in 2018. A three-time all-conference honoree, she also earned a fifth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke in 2017. As a junior, she qualified for the NCAA Championships in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke.
Â
Normann received the 2017-18 American Athletic Conference Commissioner's Postgraduate Leadership Award and was the recipient of the 2016-17 American Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award. She was named a Scholar All-American by the Collegiate Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) in 2017 and an honorable mention honoree in 2015, 2016 and 2018.
Â
She is currently pursuing a master's degree in business administration and holds a bachelor's degree in business management.
