Doc Hale Elite Meet Live Results | Camel City Invitational Live Results
GREENVILLE, N.C. – With less than a month remaining until the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships, the ECU track and field program continues its preparations with a pair of meets. One group of Pirates heads to the Doc Hale Elite Meet at Virginia Tech while the distance runners travel across the state to Winston-Salem for the Camel City Invitational. Both meets are slated for Feb. 1-2.
Â
"We are really excited to compete in two different places this weekend," Director of Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Curt Kraft said. "This is the first time that we have split our teams this year. As a general rule, we usually don't like doing this, but in this case we have to do what's best for everybody on the team as far as their individual events. We are sending a huge part of the distance team to Winston Salem and the rest of the team is going to Virginia Tech. We have to continue to improve on our marks this weekend so that we can move up the list in the conference standings. Both teams are competing with a lot of confidence and energy to this point."
ECU competed in the Penn State National Open last weekend and posted some of its best times and marks of the campaign. In her first-ever try at the pentathlon, junior Bria Stith broke the school record with a 3,587 points putting her fourth in the AAC and 44th nationally. She also set a new Pirate pentathlon high jump mark, clearing 1.64 meters.
Â
Senior Nick Ciaccia also set a school record in the 5,000-meter run, crossing the finish line in 14:22.67 which gives him the American Conference lead and a No. 25 national rank.
Â
Entering the weekend, the women's team is No. 12 in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Southeast Region poll while the men are 20th.
