
Gardner And Monk Named December Student-Athletes Of The Month

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Jayden Gardner (Men's Basketball) and Lashonda Monk (Women's Basketball) have been selected the Student-Athletes of the Month for December following an outstanding month athletically.

Gardner averaged 20.0 points, 8.6 rebounds and 32.3 minutes per game in three December games and shot 64.7 percent from the field (22-of-34). He led the Pirates in scoring and rebounding against UMES and NC A&T while posting a double-double of 27 points and 11 rebounds in 28 minutes against N.C. A&T. Gardner was also named the Lute Olson National Player-of-the-Week Dec. 31.

Monk averaged 10.2 points per game and 3.5 steals per game in leading ECU to a 4-2 record with wins over Liberty, USC Upstate, Longwood and South Carolina State. She excelled in the contest against Liberty, pocketing 16 points, six assists and five steals as the Pirates downed the Flames on a three-point field goal at the buzzer. Monk currently leads the American Conference in steals per game (3.9).
