
ECU Dominant In Tri-Meet Sweep

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina men and women's swimming and diving teams returned to Minges Natatorium on Saturday afternoon and dominated a tri-meet with Catawba and Lenoir-Rhyne. The Pirate men posted a 154-104 win over Leonir-Rhyne and cruised to a 182-75 victory over Catawba. ECU's women's team defeated Lenoir-Rhyne 186-76, Catawba 165-65 and Campbell, which was only competing on the ladies' side, 162.5-99.5
ECU swimmers finished first in 27 of 28 events, with the men taking the top spot in 14 events and the women taking 13 first-place finishes as 14 different Pirate swimmers won at least one event. The men's team claimed the top three spots in five events, while the ladies finished 1-2-3 in a pair of events.

Lyubomir Epitropov dominated the men's action Saturday, claiming three individual event titles. Epitropov led am ECU 1-2-3 sweep of the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 55.36 to edge out Ben Gingher and Jacek Arentewicz. His time of 2:01.72 was nearly two full seconds ahead of the field in the 200-yard breaststroke as was his mark of 1:58.58 in the 200-yard IM.

Marek Osina also recorded multiple event wins, touching first in 400-yard IM and the 200-yard backstroke. He was more than four seconds faster than the field in the 400-yard IM with time of 3:58.46 and over three seconds quicker than the runner-up in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:50.85.

James Ward collected two individual victories as well, triumphing in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly, just under two seconds ahead of the field in both events.

Jodi Ogle was just as dominant on the women's side as Epitropov was for the men. She collected a trio of wins as well, sweeping the backstroke events and winning the 200-yard IM. Ogle earned the win in the 100-yard backstroke, narrowly beating Campbell's Meg Everitt with a time of 58.27 for a margin of victory of 0.60 seconds. She finished 3.95 seconds ahead of the field in the 200-yard breaststroke with time of 2:04.00 was 1.89 seconds faster than her competitors in the 200-yard IM, wining with a time of 2:07.65.

Ogle swam leadoff in the 400-yard medley relay to open the meet, leading her team of Lily West, Shannon Stott and Catherine Johnson to a first-place finish.

West and Stott each posted two individual wins with West claiming first-place in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke, while Stott raced past the field in the 100 and 200-yard butterfly.

Adela Vavrinova captured the first individual win of the meet by setting a Minges Natatorium record in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:22.45, more than eight seconds faster than the second-place finisher. She later narrowly defeated Campbell's Annie Sanchez to win the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.51, just 0.30 seconds ahead of Sanchez.

She also joined Johnson, Keyla Brown and Laura Benkova on the first-place finishing 200-yard freestyle relay squad.
