
ECU's Osina, Romero Earn Weekly American Honors

GREENVILLE, N.C. – After helping the East Carolina men's swimming and diving team post a convincing win over rival UNCW Friday, sophomore Marek Osina and freshman Rodrigo Romero both earned American Athletic Conference honors on Tuesday, the league office announced.

Osina was named The American Men's Swimmer-of-the-Week for the first time this season and fourth time overall, while Romero was named The American Men's Diver-of-the-Week for the second time.

Osina helped ECU win the 200 medley relay in a Minges Natatorium record time of 1:29.69 to start the meet. He also won both backstroke events as well as the 200-yard IM. Osina finished 0.58 seconds in front of UNCW's Will Countie to win the 100-yard backstroke (50.04) and later touched the wall 5.07 seconds before Countie in the 200-yard backstroke (1:49.23). Osina cruised to victory in the 200-yard IM (1:51.00), finishing 6.00 seconds ahead of the Seahawks' Mitch Curlee.Â

Romero earned a victory in the 1-meter dive with 332.70 points and added a win off the 3-meter board with 389.25 points.

ECU will be back in action when it travels to Atlanta for the Georgia Tech Invitational, which begins on Thursday, Nov. 17.
