TIP-OFF POINTS:
• Saturday night's game against Kansas City will be the first-ever meeting between the Pirates and Roos as well as ECU's first-ever game against a current member of the Western Athletic Conference ... The Pirates will also be seeking their first win over Roos' Head Coach Billy Donlon, who led Wright State to a 73-59 win over ECU in Greenville in the first round of the 2014 CollegeInsider.com Tournament (CIT).
• A win over Kansas City would move the Pirates into the championship of a preseason tournament for the first time since 2004 when they defeated Oregon State, 66-64, in the semifinals of the BCA (Black Coaches Association) Invitational in Raleigh ... ECU fell to host NC State in the title game at PNC Arena.
• Sophomore Jayden Gardner has scored double figures in each of the first five games of the season and is averaging an American Athletic Conference best 21.3 points per game. He also ranks fifth in the conference rebounding with 9.4 rebounds per game and is tied with Temple's Nate Pierre Louis for the league lead in double-doubles with three ... Gardner has 13 career double-doubles in 36 games played ... He has led the Pirates in scoring in all five games and in four of the five contests.
• Tristen Newton is one of three freshman to rank among the top five in The American in assists per game this season. Newton is averaging 3.8 dimes per contest, which is the fifth-highest average in the league heading to play Saturday. He has scored double figures three times this season, including each of the last two games (18 vs. Evansville, 10 vs. Liberty) ... Newton dropped 20 on VMI during the season-opener ... Newton is the only freshman in The American to rank among the top 20 in minutes played, averaging 34.2 minutes per game, third-highest.
• Freshman Brandon Suggs has scored double figures in each of the last three games, averaging 11.3 points per game ... During those three games he is shooting 55.0 percent from the floor (11-of-20) and 83.3 percent from the free throw line (10-of-12) ... Only Gardner has more double figure scoring games than Suggs this season ... He he is shooting a team-best 60.0 percent (18-of-30) from the floor ... Suggs has the highest field goal shooting percentage of any freshman in The American.
• Senior Seth LeDay is shooting 54.1 percent from the field this season and is 13-of-22 shooting (.591) the last three games ... He only took one shot against Liberty in six minutes of action due to injury ... His 81.8 (9-of-11) shooting percentage is the highest single-game shooting performance on the team this season.
