GREENVILLE, N.C. – With three of the final four games at home, the ECU women's basketball team will try to finish the regular season on a high note, starting with a game against USF on Wednesday night inside Minges Coliseum. Wednesday's game will be ECU's annual Paint It Purple game.
ECU (13-12, 4-8 AAC) is coming off a 1-1 road trip through Texas, which included the Pirates' first road win of the year as they beat SMU 64-54. The Pirates had a chance to leave 2-0 as they trailed by one heading into the fourth quarter at Houston, but could not pull off the win. Raven Johnson led the team in scoring in both game, scoring 18 points against SMU and 16 against Houston. Salita Greene led the team in rebounding in both contests, pulling down a career-high 14 against SMU as well as 13 points and six rebounds at Houston. Along with Johnson, Ariyana Williams (11 points), Lashonda Monk (10 points) and Alex Frazier (10 points) all scored in double figures against the Mustangs.
Johnson leads ECU in both scoring (13.0 ppg) and rebounding (6.3 rpg). Monk and Greene are right behind her in scoring and rebounding, respectively, as Monk averages 12.7 points and Greene hauls in 6.2 rebounds. Monk leads the conference in steals, averaging 3.96 per game and is fifth in the country. She has 95 total steals, which is the third-highest single-season total in ECU history. Since moving into the starting lineup against Tulane, Williams is averaging 8.4 points and is shooting 35.5% from three. She now leads the team with 27 made triples and a three-point field goal percentage of 32.1%.
USF (13-12, 4-7) is coming off a 59-48 win over Tulsa, which was the Bulls' second win in three games. USF started the season 9-2, but have struggled due to injuries. Preseason All-Conference pick Kitija Laksa played in just the first three games of the season while fellow Preseason All-Conference selection Laura Ferriera has missed the past 10 games. In their absence, Sydni Harvey leads the Bulls with 12.3 points per game and 72 assists. Tamara Henshaw is fifth in the conference in rebounding, averaging 7.5 per game while Enna Pehadzic's 52 made three-pointers are third in the AAC.
Wednesday will be the 15th meeting between the two schools, with USF leading the all-time series 8-6. The Pirates and Bulls met twice last season, with USF winning at home and in the quarterfinals of the AAC Championship. The loss in the conference tournament was the sixth straight loss for ECU against USF, dating back to 2015. ECU is 3-3 at home against USF, losing 76-66 in the most recent game, which came on Feb. 8, 2017. The last Pirate win over the Bulls was on Feb. 15, 2015 when ECU left Minges Coliseum with a 65-64 win.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., on Wednesday evening. Fans can stream the game here, listen to the radio broadcast here or follow the live stats here. Â Â
