GREENVILLE, N.C. – With just three games left in the regular season, the ECU women's basketball team hosts Cincinnati on Saturday afternoon inside Minges Coliseum.
Â
ECU (13-13, 4-9) has lost two straight games after a stretch that saw the Pirates win three of four. The Pirates most recently dropped a 63-50 contest against USF. Raven Johnson tallied her second career double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, leading ECU in both categories. Lashonda Monk added 12 points of her own to go with seven assists and four steals. The Pirates were undone by a scoreless stretch in the fourth quarter, with the Bulls eventually outscoring ECU 19-8 in the final 10 minutes.
Â
Johnson leads ECU in both scoring (13.1 ppg) and rebounding (6.4 rpg), putting her in the top 15 of the conference in both categories. Monk leads the AAC with 3.96 steals per game and is fifth in the country. She is one steal away from becoming just the third Pirate to reach 100 steals in a single season as well as three from moving into the ECU top-10 in career steals. The sophomore guard is one of just three players in the country with at least four games of eight steals or more. Alex Frazier is the third leading scorer on the team, averaging 8.0 points overall and 10.1 in conference games.
Â
Cincinnati (17-9, 9-4) is on the hunt for a bye in the American Championship as the Bearcats currently sit in third in the league. After starting the conference slate 1-2, Cincinnati is 8-2 in its past 10 games, most recently beating Tulsa 74-47. The Bearcats have the second highest field goal percentage in the AAC, shooting 42.8% and are third in assists, averaging 15.3 per game. Ilmar'I Thomas is in the conference's top ten in scoring (13.4 ppg, ninth), rebounding (7.1 rpg, tenth) and field goal percentage (.619, first). Antoinette Miller is second in the league as she hands out 5.5 assists and is fourth with 2.0 steals.
Â
ECU holds a 9-6 all-time advantage in the series. Last season, the two teams split a pair of matchups, winning on the other's court. ECU topped Cincinnati 79-70 in the most recent meeting behind Thais Oliveira's 18 points. ECU is 5-2 at home against the Bearcats, the most recent win coming in Feb. 2017. Since joining the American in 2014-15, the Pirates are 7-2 against Cincinnati, including a five-game winning streak during the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons.
