
Women’s 4x400 Relay Earns Podium Finish In Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The ECU track and field program put the indoor season to rest Saturday, completing its participation in the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championship at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

The women's team posted a seventh-place finish while the men ended up in eighth.

"Both teams competed their hearts out," Director of Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Curt Kraft said. "At the beginning of the meet we asked them to compete with pride, passion and lots of heart. I feel like we did that. At the beginning of the weekend we set some goals for both teams. I feel like we accomplished most of those goals. Now we need to turn our attention to the outdoor season. We are excited to get back to work."

The women's 4x400 relay team consisting of Cedrina Singletary, D'Nia Freeman, Courtney Warner and Shellbi Chapman turned in a season-best time of 3:40.79 to earn the bronze medal.

Nuria Tillo-Prats claimed fourth place in the mile with a time of 4:52.07 while Grace Sullivan was sixth in a time of 4:54.93. The duo earned eight points for the squad. Sophomore Brooke Stith also finished fifth in the 60-meter hurdles and the triple jump to claim eight points.

On the men's side, Evan McCracken finished fifth in the shot put with a heave of 17.31 meters.

The Pirates' outdoor season begins March 14-16 at the Charlotte 49er Classic.
