GREENVILLE, N.C. – Already having doubled its win total from the inaugural season, the ECU women's lacrosse team hosts Saint Francis on Sunday afternoon inside Johnson Stadium. The game will be Cancer Awareness as the Pirates honor all those who have dealt with the disease.
"We're excited to be back in Johnson Stadium and to honor cancer survivors and care givers this weekend at our game," said head coach Amanda Barnes Moore. "Cancer is something that has impacted so many of our lives directly or indirectly and we want to take a moment to recognize those that have battled the disease and those that have fought alongside them in helping to administer care."
ECU (4-1) already has a pair of 2-0 weekends after winning just two games throughout the 2018 season. The Pirates most recently won a 10-9 thriller at George Washington and then followed it with a 16-2 demolition at Delaware State. ECU's lone loss of the season came at then-No. 3 North Carolina.
With their program-best start, the Pirates have been collecting awards. Sophomore goalkeeper Christina White was named AAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season after making 20 saves in the pair of wins last weekend. White set a new school record by making 19 saves against George Washington, including a stop on a free position shot in the final minute. Joining White in being honored was Camryn Pennypacker, as she earned AAC Midfield of the Week. Pennypacker had six points over the weekend, including scoring the game-winning goal with two minutes to go against the Buff and Blue.
Ally Stanton leads ECU with 15 points on seven goals and eight assists, as the sophomore attacker racked up nine points in the past two games. Megan Pallozzi (11 goals, three assists) and Brittany Borchers (five goals, nine assists) both have 14 points while Hannah Rzempoluch (seven goals, six assists) has 13. Hannah Melton is second on the team in both ground balls (10) and caused turnovers (six).
Saint Francis (0-3) has scored just six goals in the past two games after scoring 18 in a season-opening loss to Radford. The Flash went 7-10 last season, including a 12-7 win over ECU. Morgan Day leads Saint Francis with eight points, all on goals. Emileigh Scott is the team's leader in draw controls with 18 already. The Flash has already used four goalkeepers this season. Ashley Stoessel has started all three games and has 24 saves.
Sunday's game will get started at 12 noon inside Johnson Stadium. The first 200 fans will receive a pink ECU t-shirt. Those who cannot make it to Johnson Stadium can stream the game here or follow the live stats here.
