GREENVILLE, N.C. – The ECU track and field program turns its attention to the start of the outdoor campaign this week when it participates in the Charlotte 49er Classic. The meet is slated to run from March 14-16 beginning with the heptathlon on day one.
Â
"Both teams are very excited to get the outdoor season kicked off this weekend in Charlotte," Director of Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Curt Kraft said. "We had some great practices over the last three week since the indoor season came to completion. One of the things we have to adjust to at this point is all the elements that outdoor track presents. You have wind, rain and all the other factors that make a difference in peoples' performances. It will be great to get started."
Â
The Pirate women look to turn in another strong outdoor season that culminated in a second-place finish at the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships and resulted in seven NCAA regional qualifiers.
Â
Overall, ECU returns seven all-conference performers in Nuria Tillo-Prats (800m), Grace Sullivan (Steeplechase), Sommer Knight (Pole Vault), Mackenzie Whitaker (Long Jump), D'Ante Yarborough (4x400 Relay, 60m Hurdles), Hakeem Horton (4x400 Relay) and Ryan Davis (Hammer).
Â
The Pirates will compete in five regular season meets before the AAC Outdoor Championships, including the Bill Carson Invitational in Greenville April 5-6. Â
