GREENVILLE, N.C. – ECU's Jake Agnos has been named to the 40-man midseason Golden Spikes Award Watch List, USA Baseball announced Wednesday afternoon. The left-hander is the fourth player in program history to be named to the midseason watch list joining Jeff Hoffman (2013), Evan Kruczynski (2016) and Chris Holba (2018).
Â
Agnos, the lone representative from the American Athletic Conference, has started eight games posting a 4-2 record with 69 strikeouts in 45.2 innings. He has allowed 17 runs (14 earned) on 39 hits while sporting a 2.76 ERA.
Â
The Haymarket, Va. native earned the first of two AAC Pitcher-of-the-Week accolades on Feb. 25 after tossing seven scoreless innings in a 10-0 win over Monmouth. The junior allowed just four hits, walked one and struck out 11 batters, tying his career-high. He had at least one strikeout in all seven frames, recording multiple punch outs in the first, third and fifth innings.
Â
On April 1, he took home his second weekly honor after earning his fourth win of the season setting the tone for ECU's weekend series sweep at USF. Agnos once again tied his career-high with 11 strikeouts registering at least one in all six innings including four in the first and two in both the second and third stanzas. He surrendered three hits, issued two walks and allowed just three Bulls to reach second base in a 4-0 victory.
Â
Agnos, who has tallied four quality starts, has worked into the sixth inning five times and the seventh on three occasions. He has registered seven-plus strikeouts in seven consecutive games heading into No. 8 ECU's weekend series at No. 1 UCLA and has tallied double-digit punch outs three times. Agnos leads The American in Ks Per 9 Innings (13.60) and total strikeouts (69), which also ranks 12th and 13th nationally.
Â
In all, Agnos is the sixth Pirate to be considered for the prestigious award joining Corey Kemp (2008 preseason, 2008 semifinalist), Hoffman (2013 midseason, 2014 preseason), Kruczynski (2016 midseason), Holba (2018 midseason) and Bryant Packard (2019 preseason).
