GREENVILLE, N.C.- Due to impending weather, the ECU women's tennis match will move its match against NC Central from Friday, April 5 to Wednesday, April 3 at 11 a.m., at the Dr. Younge Tennis Courts.
Â
ECU (18-2) is on a historic winning streak, having won 18 straight games. It is the longest streak during head coach Tom Morris' 20-year tenure and it is the longest streak for an ECU team since ECU baseball won 19 straight in 2004. The Pirates have gotten it done both at home and on the road, as ECU is 7-0 in home matches, 5-2 in road contests and 6-0 in neutral site tilts.
Â
Seven different Pirates have won at least 10 singles matches this season, led by Alisa Diercksen's 21-8 record. Nastja Rettich has been a force on court six, going 8-1 there and 19-6 overall. Lisa Hofbauer (14-11) and Celia Ruiz (15-3) have combined to go 14-3 on court one and 11-1 on court two. In their rookie seasons, Martina Paladini-Jennings (16-) and Minette Van Vreden (14-11) have both reached double figures, as has Hsia Ho Chiao (10-7).
Â
In doubles, Diercksen and Hofbauer have been the top tandem for the Pirates, racking up a 17-4 record. The veteran/rookie combination has worked wonders for Ruiz and Van Vreden, as the pairing is 11-1 this season and has won 10 straight. Rounding out ECU's duos are Rettich and Chiao as they are 6-6 together.
Â
NC Central (7-10) is coming off a 5-2 loss to Gardner-Webb which stopped a two-match winning streak. The Eagles are 4-6 at home this season and 3-1 in the MEAC. NC Central is just 39-57 (.406) in singles matches this season and does not have a player with an individual record above .500. Frida Cnossen is the top player for the Eagles at 7-7 overall and 6-5 on court one. In doubles, Cnossen and Hannah Gaines lead the way with an 8-6 record, all on the top court.
Â
First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m., on Wednesday morning.
