ECU Finishes Eighth At The American Championship

PALM HARBOR, Fla. --- The ECU men's golf team fired an 8-over-par on Tuesday to finish eighth at the 2019 American Athletic Conference Championship at Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club.

The Pirates posted their lowest round of the tournament, but were unable to move up the leaderboard after starting the day in eighth-place. Memphis won the title at even-par while SMU was second at 12-over--par and UCF was third at 13-over-par.

ECU finished the championship at 32-over-par, shooting 299-293-292=884.

Blake Taylor tied for 10th overall by carding a final round 1-over-par 72 to finish with a 54-hole score of 3-over-par 216 (73-71-72). He stood 2-under-par through 17 holes, but a triple bogey on cost the junior a chance at a Top-5 finish.

Freshman A.J. Beechler fired the team's lowest round of the day by shooting par-71 to finish in a tie for 28th after opening play with a 76 and 75 on Sunday and Monday. He posted a final score of 9-over-par 222.

Sophomore Stephen Carroll recorded his best round of the championship Tuesday with a 2-over-par 73 and finished tied for 32nd at 12-over-par 225 (74-78-73). Junior Patrick Stephenson completed the event at 14-over-par 227 (79-72-76), tied for 36th with sophomore Tim Bunten (76-75-77=228) finishing one stroke behind him in 38th-place.

The Pirates await their postseason fate when the NCAA Regional pairings will be revealed on May 1.
