Pirate Women Claim Fourth-Straight Bill Carson Invitational Title

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The ECU track and field program will take away hardware from the Bill Carson Invitational for the fourth-straight year as the Pirate women ran away from the field to win the team title this weekend at the Bate Foundation Track and Field Facility.

The women amassed a total of 272.5 points, outpacing a Charlotte squad that compiled 178.5. The 49er men edged ECU on the men's side by a 181-167 count.

"It is very exciting to win the women's title fours years in a row," Director of Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Curt Kraft said. "The men also did a great job, but came up a little short to a very good Charlotte Team. Both teams performed exceptionally well across the board. We set school records and had numerous lifetime personal records. As I have mentioned before, our teams really enjoy competing at home in front of their parents, our hometown fans, our administrators and their professors. This is by far the best that we have competed over the last three meets. It's very important that we take this momentum and energy into our final two meets of the regular season. We have to have a good week of practice and continue to stay healthy."

In all, the Pirates won 14 events – seven on the track and seven in the field.

Sullivan broke her own school record in the Steeplechase, turning in a time of 10:12.62 that should put her in the top three in the American Athletic Conference heading into next weekend.

ECU will split the squad next weekend with one group heading to the Aggie Invitational in Greensboro while another will travel to Mount Olive for the Pickle Field Day Relays.
