Agnos, Burleson Earn Academic All-District Honors

GREENVILLE, N.C. – ECU junior Jake Agnos and sophomore Alec Burleson have been named to the Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-District 3 First-Team according to an announcement by the organization.

CoSIDA recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The First-Team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot, where first-, second- and third team All-America honorees will be announced in June.

Agnos, a management information systems major, is a seven-time ECU Director of Athletics Honor Roll member, two-time American Athletic Conference All-Academic selection (2017-18) and two-time Google Cloud Academic All-District honoree (2018-19). The Haymarket, Va. native was chosen as the 2019 ECU Mr. Pirate at the 6th Annual Goldspys, which is presented to the male student-athlete who excels in the classroom and in athletics, while also contributing to the community. He was also named to the 2019 Nutrien All-Academic Team at the annual Breakfast of Champions. A member of ECU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and previous member of the Athletic Leadership Living Learning Community, Agnos boasts a cumulative GPA over 3.96 at ECU.

On the diamond, Agnos has appeared in 13 games (all starts) where is owns an 8-2 record with a 2.19 ERA. The left-hander has fanned 114 batters, which ranks ninth nationally and leads The American. He has allowed 22 runs (19 earned) on 58 hits in 78.0 innings. Agnos has fanned at least six batters in 12 consecutive outings including a career-high 14 against Connecticut. The three-time AAC Pitcher-of-the-Week and Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List candidate has combined on five shutouts and enters this week's action with a 26.0 inning scoreless streak.

Burleson, a business management major, is a five-time ECU Director of Athletics Honor Roll member and a 2018 AAC All-Academic selection who sports a 3.94 cumulative GPA. Regarded as one of the top two-way players in the country, he his hitting at a .373 clip with six home runs, 45 RBI and has scored 27 runs. Earlier this week he earned his second-straight AAC Player-of-the-Week accolade (third of the season) after helping the Pirates clinch the 2019 American regular season title. Named to a pair of midseason All-America Teams, Burleson ranks third nationally in sac flies (eight) and 13th in doubles (20). He leads the Pirates offense with 23 multi-hit games and is second with 11 multi-RBI contests.

On the mound, he has appeared in 18 games making six starts where he owns a 5-1 ledger with four saves and a 3.30 ERA. Burleson earned his 10th career win at No. 12 North Carolina allowing one run over four innings. He has fanned 48 batters while walking 16 and struck out a career-high 10 batters against Monmouth on Feb. 23.
