Dusty Baker Named To CPL Select Team

GREENVILLE, N.C. – ECU junior Dusty Baker is one of 28 players to be named to the 2019 Coastal Plain League Select Team, who are set to play the USA Collegiate National Team (CNT) on Monday, July 1 at 4 p.m. (ET) at the USA Baseball Training Complex in Cary, N.C. Baker's selection marks the second-straight year the Pirates have had a player on the squad following Chandler Jenkins in 2018.

Baker, who currently plays for the Morehead City Marlins, is hitting at a .531 clip (17-for-32) with a pair of home runs and seven RBI in 11 contests. The Clyo, Ga. native has scored a team second-best 14 runs, laced three doubles and is a perfect 2-of-2 in stolen base attempts. Baker has tallied at least one hit in nine of 11 games (multiple five times) and spearheaded a 706 win over the Wilmington Sharks (June 19) after going 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs.

During his junior campaign with the Pirates, Baker started 26 of 57 games batting .250 (23-for-92) with a home run, 11 RBI and 17 runs scored. He tallied three multi-hit, one multi-RBI game and swiped three bases helping ECU (47-18) to the 2019 Greenville NCAA Regional Title.

The CPL Select Team committee is comprised of league coaches, league officials and Major League scouts selected the team. The roster is broken down as follows: catchers (2), first basemen (2), second basemen (2), shortstops (2), third basemen (2), outfielders (6), designated hitters/utility (3) and pitchers (9).Â
