Men's Golf Reveals 2019-20 Schedule
July 31, 2019 | Men's Golf
GREENVILLE, N.C. – The ECU men's golf program revealed its schedule for the 2019-20 campaign Wednesday, featuring 12 tournaments prior to the start of NCAA regional competition. The Pirates will play in five events in the fall and seven in the spring, highlighted by hosting the ECU Intercollegiate at Brook Valley, March 16-17.
Â
"We are very excited about our schedule this year, ECU head coach Andrew Sapp said. "Our schedule last season was strong, and with a veteran team coming back this year, we made it even stronger this season. We have a mixture of new tournaments with some of the same events we have gone to in the past, so that should be an advantage for our team to return to many of the great events we played in last year.Â
Â
"The fall is highlighted by our first tournament up to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan which should be an amazing trip, and our spring as always features a February tournament in Puerto Rico and our ECU Intercollegiate at Brook Valley in mid-March. We try each year to put our players up against top-25 teams and some of the best college players in golf, so our players will have the opportunity to prove themselves against the best."
Â
ECU will make its inaugural appearance at the Island Resort Collegiate in Escanaba, Mich., to open the season September 1.
Â
The next three tournaments will all be familiar ones for the Pirates, competing in the Rod Myers Invitational (Sept. 14-15), Old Town Club Collegiate Invitational (Sept. 23-24) and Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate (Oct. 11-13). ECU will close the fall slate at The Intercollegiate at Innisbrook (Oct. 28-29) in Palm Harbor, Fla., home of the American Athletic Conference men's golf championship.
Â
For the eighth time in 10 years, ECU tees off its spring season at the Sea Best Invitational at TPC Sawgrass (Feb. 3-4) in Ponte Vedra, Fla. ECU continues its spring by traveling to Puerto Rico for the Puerto Rico Classic (Feb. 16-18), hosted by Purdue University at the Rio Mar Country Club. It then returns stateside for the General Hackler Championship (March 9-10) at The Dunes Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Â
The Pirates close out the month of March by hosting the ECU Intercollegiate at Brook Valley. They have won the tournament each of the last two seasons and three times in the last four years.
Â
The regular season concludes with three tournaments in April beginning with the Irish Creek Intercollegiate (4-5) in Kannapolis followed by the Stitch Intercollegiate (10-11) at MacGregor Downs in Cary.
Â
The 2020 American Men's Golf Championship will be held at the Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor, Fla., for the third straight year. The event is scheduled for April 26-28. NCAA regional tournaments will be held May 17-20 and hosted by Auburn, Clemson, LSU, Michigan State, Oklahoma and San Diego. The NCAA championship will take place May 29 – June 3 in Scottsdale, Ariz.
