GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina will host NCAA Division III member North Carolina Wesleyan in its home opener Tuesday afternoon at 5 p.m. inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.

The game was added to the schedule Sunday afternoon following the cancellation of the Pirates' contest versus Belmont Abbey in Charlotte on Saturday.

ECU is coming off a season-opening 66-57 road win at Charlotte on Friday. Jayden Gardner led the Pirates with 18 points, while Tristen Newton added 15. Four additional players scored six or more points. N.C. Wesleyan fell to Coastal Carolina, 117-68, on Saturday after dropping its season opener to Elon, 82-52, earlier in the week.

The Pirates have won their home opener each of the previous 17 seasons and compiled a record of 48-5 at Minges Coliseum in home openers.

THE SERIES
East Carolina leads the all-time series with N.C. Wesleyan 7-1 and has won each of the last six meetings. The Pirates are Battling Bishops are squaring off for the first time since 2014 when ECU opened the season with a 99-81 win. This will be the fifth time that the Pirates have hosted N.C. Wesleyan in their home opener (1988, 1990, 2013, 2014).

FIRST OF FOUR STRAIGHT AT HOME
Tuesday's game against N.C. Wesleyan will be the first of four straight inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum for the Pirates. ECU will host Radford on Saturday (Dec. 5) before welcoming UNCW (Dec. 7) and North Florida (Dec. 10). Six of the Pirates' eight games in December will be at home as they also host James Madison (Dec. 19) and Tulane (Dec. 22).

GARDNER ON THE WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Junior Jayden Gardner was named to The American's first weekly honor roll of the season Monday after leading the Pirates to a season opening win over Charlotte. Gardner scored 10 of his game-high 18 points in the final six minutes to push ECU to victory.

CAREER HIGHS VS CHARLOTTE
Senior Tyrie Jackson matched his rebounding career-high with seven rebounds against the 49ers on Friday, while junior Tremont Robinson-White handed out a career-best five assists. Senior Bitumba Baruti also matched his career-best for 3s in a game by sinking a pair.
