February 06, 2020 | General, Men's Track and Field, Women's Track and Field
GREENVILLE, N.C. – Senior thrower Ryan Davis and junior pole vaulter Sommer Knight of the track and field program have been named the male and female student-athletes of the month following an outstanding January of competition.
Â
Davis has set the school record in the weight throw twice already this indoor season, putting up a mark of 22.20 meters at the Carolina Challenge. Not only was it the facility record, but it also kept Davis in the lead on the American Athletic Conference performance list and moved him into fourth nationally. That effort earned Davis the AAC Male Field Athlete of the Week honors for the second time in his career. Additionally, he ranks third in the league in the shot put.
Â
Knight re-took the AAC lead in the pole vault at the Carolina Challenge, posting a clearance of 4.15 meters for a third-place finish in the event. She is currently 26th in the nation.
Â
The track and field program returns to action this weekend with a group of athletes headed to the Doc Hale Elite Meet in Blacksburg, Va., and another to the Camel City Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C.
