GREENVILLE, N.C. – Senior Gustavo Santos and freshman Rodrigo Romero will represent East Carolina at the 2020 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships. The championship meet will be held March 25-28 at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis.
 Â
 Â
Santos, who participated in the 50 free and 100 breaststroke at last year's national championships, will compete in the 100-yard fly and the 100 free, while Romero will participate in the 3-meter diving competition.
Â
Â
Romero is the first ECU diver to qualifying for the NCAA Division I Championships since Jack Morrow in 1974.
Â
Â
"[Rodrigo] is a very hard worker and to make it as a freshman is pretty special," ECU Head Coach Matthew Jabs said. "I'm super happy for he and Coach Jesse [Lyman].
Â
Â
"Gus has had an outstanding career. He is without question one of the best to ever swim for our program. We were confident he was going to be invited, and now look forward to what he can do in Indianapolis."Â
Â
Â
Romero collected three medals at the 2020 American Athletic Conference Championships, winning gold in the 1-meter diving competition and silver in the 3-meter and platform.
Â
Â
Santos claimed his fourth consecutive 100 fly conference title setting the school and championship meet record with an NCAA 'B' qualifying time of 46.64. He finished second in the 100-yard freestyle while helping the Pirates sweep all four relay eventsÂ
