GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina will play its third-straight home game and its second contest of the season against BIG EAST Conference competition Saturday when the Pirates host the Syracuse Orangemen.
ECU (2-1) is coming off a 37-17 Conference USA victory over Tulane as the Pirates rolled up 505 yards of offense. Trailing 14-13 at halftime, East Carolina outscored the Green Wave by a 24-3 margin in the second half. Syracuse (1-1) was idle last week after dropping a 12-10 contest at Conference USA foe Cincinnati on Sept. 9.
SERIES HISTORY
East Carolina and Syracuse will be meeting for the ninth time when they play Saturday afternoon in Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium. The Orangemen led the all-time series by a 6-2 count and won the last meeting (1997), 56-0 in the Carrier Dome.
The Orangemen have won all four previous meetings in Greenville, the most recent of those a 21-18 decision in 1994. East Carolina's last win in the series was a 27-24 decision at Syracuse in the second week of the 1995 season.
