
ECU Concludes Fall With Sixth Place Finish

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The East Carolina men's golf team wrapped up its fall schedule with a sixth-place finish at the Grandover Collegiate at the Grandover Country Club, combining for a 54-hole total of 4-over-par 868.
The two-day event concluded Sunday afternoon with Davidson claiming the team tournament title at 16-under 848, followed by Toledo at 9-under 855 and host UNCG at 7-under 857.
UNCG's Nick Lyerly edged Davidson's Alex Heffner by two strokes to capture individual medalist honors with a three-round total of 14-under 202.
Fifth-year senior Stephen Carroll led ECU with a final tally of par-216 (71-72-73) to earn a tie for 12th.
"It was nice to end the fall season with our best performance so far," Pirate head coach Kevin Williams said. "Stephen Carroll had a real steady fall, and it was nice to see freshman Carter Busse post an under par round today."
A.J. Beechler (74-67-79), Connor Jones (75-71-74) and Busse (74-76-70) tied for 26th at 4-over 220. Beechler posted the Pirates' lowest round of the tournament carding a 5-under 67 in round two before Busse recorded the team's second lowest with a 2-under 70 in the final round. Graduate transfer Nic Brown rounded out the Pirates' lineup with a 6-over 222 (74-72-76) to tie for 37th.
Jimbo Stanley and Eston Lee each competed as individuals for ECU with Stanley shooting a 20-over 236 (77-81-78) and Lee carding a 24-over 240 (75-77-88).
With the fall schedule now complete, the Pirates will next see action when they travel to Hilton Head, S.C., for the Wexford Intercollegiate in late February.
