GREENVILLE, N.C. – Following an emphatic sweep of Memphis last Sunday, East Carolina will attempt to move above .500 in American Athletic Conference play when it hosts Cincinnati and Temple Wednesday and Friday inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.
Â
Both matches will stream live via ESPN+ while admission is free for all fans.
Â
With the victory over the Tigers, the Pirates earned their second win in league action and currently sit in seventh place in the AAC standings with a 2-2 record.
Â
Entering the week, ECU is fourth in the AAC in opposing hitting percentage (.194) while ranking seventh in digs per set (13.93). Individually, senior Bri Wood is seventh in kills per set (3.08) and freshman Tia Shum checks in at seventh in digs per set (3.85).
Â
Senior Sydney Kleinman posted 19 kills in her return to play Sunday after missing the last six matches. If she met the minimum number of contests played to appear on the conference statistical list, she would pace the AAC in kills per set (5.08) and points per set (6.08).
Â
Wood is currently seventh on the Pirate career list for kills, entering the week with 1,122 to her credit. She needs just 63 more digs to become the sixth player in program history to record 1,000 kills and digs.
Â
East Carolina is 3-2 at home this season with wins over Gardner-Webb, Appalachian State and Memphis.
Â
The Competition
Cincinnati (8-4, 3-1 AAC) heads to Greenville with some momentum after defeating Memphis and SMU at home last weekend. The Bearcats currently rank first in the league in kills (13.29) and assists (12.51) per set.
Â
Temple (4-11, 0-4) most recently dropped a pair of league contests to Tulane and Houston at home. Gem Grimshaw paces the club offensively with 199 kills (3.62 per set), putting her fourth among American Conference players. Collectively, the Owls rank sixth in the league in aces per set (1.40).
