GREENVILLE, N.C. – Following a season-opening victory over South Carolina State, ECU welcomes Canisius to Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum for a non-conference contest. The game is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. and will be streamed live via ESPN+ with Si Seymour and Patrick Johnson on the call.
The matchup can also be heard on the Pirate Sports Network from Learfield with Aaron Brunk and Michael Perry handling the broadcast duties on ECU's flagship station 107.9 WNCT.
Â
With the 70-62 victory over the Bulldogs, the Pirates secured their 22nd-straight season-opening victory - entering the contest tied with Duke for the longest such streak nationally.
Â
J.J. Miles paced four ECU players in double figures offensively with 18 points thanks in part to draining four three-point field goals. Tristen Newton dropped in 15 points while Arkansas transfer Vance Jackson showed well in his first outing in the Purple and Gold with a double-double of 12 points and 13 rebounds. Freshman Brandon Johnson began his Pirate career with a bang as well, exploding for 11 points and 13 rebounds. Johnson is the first East Carolina player to notch a double-double in his collegiate debut since Brandan Stith tallied 12 points and 10 rebounds versus North Carolina Wesleyan in 2013. Additionally, Tremont Robinson-White matched his career high of nine assists while collecting three steals.
Â
SCSU ended up out-shooting ECU .355 to .324 as both sides knocked down 24 attempts from the field. The rebounding battle finished even as well at 50 apiece, but the Pirates forced 16 Bulldog turnovers and turned those miscues into 20 points.
Â
The Competition
Canisius lost a 77-67 decision at Miami (Fla.) Friday in its campaign lidlifter. Malek Green led all scorers with 21 points, and he also grabbed eight rebounds to go with three assists and a blocked shot in the losing effort for the Golden Griffins. Armon Harried was good for 11 points and Akrum Ahemed scored 10 points to go along with three assists and three steals. Jordan Henderson finished the night with nine points in the loss for Canisius, which shot 41.4 percent from the field, 23.8 percent from 3-point land and 58.3 percent from the charity stripe for the contest.

The Canisius Series
Canisius and East Carolina have met just once on the hardwood - a 73-66 Golden Griffin victory back on Dec. 5, 1981, in Columbia, Mo.
Â
Against the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference
The Pirates are 13-8 against current members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. ECU will take on its first MAAC program since knocking off Marist 81-73 on the road Nov. 18, 2000.
