GREENVILLE, N.C. – Just two matches remain for East Carolina in the 2021 fall season as the Pirates travel to Cincinnati (Wednesday) and Temple (Friday).
Â
Both matches are slated for 1 p.m. starts and will be streamed live via ESPN+.
Â
ECU (9-18, 5-13 AAC) looks to end things on a high note and record their first victory since a 3-1 triumph over South Florida back on Nov. 5 in Greenville. The Pirates were highly competitive last weekend against two of the better teams in the league, falling in five sets to Tulsa before dropping a marathon four-set decision to Wichita State.
Â
East Carolina enters the final week of the regular season ranked fourth among AAC squad in opposing hitting percentage (.212) while freshmen Tia Shum and Amelia Davis slot in the top 10 respectively in digs per set (3.86) and blocks per set (0.95).
Â
The Competition
Cincinnati (17-9, 12-6 AAC) is in a third-place tie in the conference standings with Wichita State and has a chance to catch second-place Houston with a pair of wins this week. The Bearcats pulled out a pair of five-set wins over the Shockers and Tulsa at home last weekend, rallying from two sets to one deficits in each match. Middle blocker Adria Oliver was named to the league's weekly honor roll, hitting a stout .606 in the two contests.
Â
Temple (6-23, 2-16 AAC) resides in 10th place after getting swept by UCF and knocking off South Florida last weekend on the road. The Owls rank near the bottom of the league in most statistical categories, but are seventh in blocks per set (1.97) thanks in large part to Taylor Davenport who ranks third individually at 1.18 blocks per set.
Â
The Cincinnati Series
Cincinnati leads the series with East Carolina by a 18-3 margin and has won the last seven meetings. The most recent ECU victory occurred in 2017 in Greenville when the Pirates downed the Bearcats 3-0 at Minges Coliseum.
Â
The Temple Series
East Carolina trails Temple in the series between the programs 9-5. The Pirates have captured five of the last seven encounters, including a 3-0 win in Greenville back on Oct. 8.
