GREENVILLE, N.C. – With the momentum of a three-game winning streak in hand, East Carolina closes out a four-contest homestand Tuesday night when North Carolina A&T visits Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Â
Should the Pirates defeat the Aggies, ECU would capture its seventh-straight home win – the longest such stretch for the program since the 1993-94 season. East Carolina downed Gardner-Webb 62-52 Saturday afternoon to win its sixth-straight decision inside the friendly confines.
Â
J.J. Miles had the touch from deep in the contest, knocking down five three-point field goals to finish with a game and season-high 15 points. Brandon Suggs and Tristen Newton also reached double figures, collecting 12 points apiece. Newton extended his streak of scoring in the double digits to 12 consecutive outings. Ludgy Debaut had a monster game on the glass, pulling down a career-high 11 rebounds.
Â
The Pirates took advantage of a 14-5 difference in free throws made to snap the Runnin' Bulldogs' four-game winning streak. ECU also ended up out-shooting GWU by a 37.5 to 34.5-percent margin while out-working Gardner-Webb in the rebounding column and ending up with a 41-32 advantage which included 10 offensive rebounds that led to nine second-chance points. The Pirates also enjoyed a 28-20 edge in the paint and scored 16 points off 13 Gardner-Webb turnovers.
Â
ECU is 6-1 against North Carolina A&T in the all-time series between the programs. The Pirates won the last meeting by a 77-57 count back on Dec. 28, 2018, in Greenville.
Â
The Competition
North Carolina A&T (3-6) has won two straight with victories over St. Francis-Brooklyn and Carver College. The Aggies are winless on the road (0-5) with losses to UNC Greensboro, Jacksonville, South Florida, Wake Forest and Stanford. David Beatty paced A&T with 13 points in its most recent outing against Carver while leading scorer Marcus Watson (12.6 ppg) was held to four. The Aggies scored 21 points off 17 Cougar turnovers and shot 54.2 percent (39 of 72) from the field.
