
ECU Wraps Indoor Season At Darius Dixon Memorial

GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina closes out its indoor track season this weekend with participation in the Darius Dixon Memorial on the campus of Liberty University. Â

The meet runs from Feb. 12-13 at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex.

"We are excited to have another opportunity to compete this weekend at Liberty," Director of Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Curt Kraft said. "This will hopefully be the weekend that we show the biggest improvement from all the event areas. We have had about a month to get our feet under us and had the opportunity to be involved with some great competition. Hopefully, the results will show this weekend."

The Pirates competed at the Brant Tolsma Invitational at Liberty last weekend. Melicia Mouzzon made her season debut in the 60-meter dash, turning in a prelim time of 7.68 to win her heat and advance to the finals where she placed third by crossing the finish line in 7.60.

Mackenzie Whitaker took 11th in the 800-meter run, clocking at 2:26.25. In the 60-meter hurdles, Brooke and Bria Stith both moved on to the finals where the former finished in seventh place with a time of 9.10.

In the pole vault, Sommer Knight posted a mark of 3.91 meters for a fifth-place tie while the Stith sisters finished third and ninth in the long jump with respective marks of 5.50 and 5.20 meters.

The lone male competing for the Pirates, Niejel Wilkins, snatched sixth place in the long jump with an effort of 6.59 meters.

The American Athletic Conference will not hold its indoor conference championships this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
