August 19, 2021 | Volleyball
GREENVILLE, N.C. – With the regular season commencing in just one week's time, East Carolina heads across the state to the Piedmont Triad Friday evening for an exhibition match at UNC Greensboro. First serve inside Fleming Gymnasium is slated for 6 p.m.

UNCG is not planning to stream the match. Therefore, Pirate fans should monitor the team's official Twitter account @ECUVB for updates.
Â
During the abbreviated 2021 spring campaign - which featured a schedule that enumerated just 12 matches as well as a scaled back NCAA Tournament - the Purple and Gold put together a 4-8 overall record and 1-7 American Athletic Conference mark. Among the victories included a sweep of the North Carolina Tar Heels in Greenville.
Â
The Pirates welcome back their top-three point scorers from the spring, including preseason All-American Athletic Conference selection Bri Wood who is on the cusp of becoming the sixth player in program history to record 1,000 career kills and digs. She collected her 1,000th kill in an ECU sweep of Temple back in March. Classmate and outside hitter Sydney Kleinman is 259 kills away from 1,000 in a Pirate uniform.
Â
The fall version of the 2021 roster lists 11 newcomers along with nine returners. A total of 10 freshmen arrived on campus this summer and will vie for a number of starting roles on the squad. East Carolina has added some height to the mix as well, including three players that are 6-3 or taller.
Â
UNC Greensboro finished the spring with a 2-15 overall record and a 2-14 Southern Conference ledger. Hannah Knier and Brittany Wood return as offensive options after combining for 216 kills. The Spartans were selected ninth of nine teams in the league's preseason coaches poll.
Â
East Carolina officially kicks off the campaign next Friday when the Pirates tangle with Liberty in Lynchburg, Va.
