Pirates Trek To Durham For NCCU Invitational

GREENVILLE, N.C. – With two fall competitions under its belt, East Carolina continues to build toward the ITA Carolina Regionals with participation in the N.C. Central Fall Invitational in Durham.

The event is scheduled for Sept. 7-9 at the Dr. James W. Younge Tennis Courts.

Participating Schools: Chowan, Davidson, East Carolina, N.C. Central, Norfolk State, North Carolina A&T, Radford, Shaw, Tennessee State, Western Carolina

The Pirates were last in action at the UNCG Duals two weeks ago. A solid effort saw East Carolina pick up 15 singles wins and nine doubles triumphs during the three days in Greensboro.

Alisha Hussain continued her spotless campaign with three singles wins, knocking off Juliana Craft (UNC Greensboro) 6-1, 6-1 as well as Mariana Ossa (Campbell) 6-3, 5-7 (10-6) and Savanna Kollack (Davidson) 6-4, 6-4. Ines Bachir also ran through the weekend undefeated, emerging victorious over Hanna Giddings (UNC Greensboro) 3-6, 6-1 (10-6), Anna-Marie Kopecka (Campbell) 6-1, 4-6 (16-14) and Kavya Patel (Davidson) 6-4, 6-4.

In doubles play, Martina Muzzolon and Anne Lou Champion teamed up to log a 3-0 record. The duo breezed through opponents Miray Konar and Shauna Galvin (Elon) 6-4, Mariana Ossa and Abbie Tyler (Campbell) 6-2 and Olivia Hooper and Daniela Porges (Davidson) 6-0.

Led by Hussain's 6-0 mark, six of eight players on the Pirate squad sport winning singles records thus far. Additionally, three of four doubles pairs are at least .500, paced by Champion and Muzzolon at 3-1. Collectively, East Carolina is 28-18 in singles and 11-8 in doubles.
