Last Time Out
The Pirates enter the game 1-1 after a tough loss against Wake Forest. In an 11-point loss, ECU missed 16 free throws and shot a mere 3-17 from deep. Despite holding the Demon Deacons to just two points in the second and nine in the fourth quarters, Wake was able to put up 28 in the third quarter to break the game open.
Â
The Pirates were led by Danae McNeal once again with 13 points. Amiya Joyner added 10 points and seven rebounds in the loss.

Scouting the Seahawks
UNCW enters the 2022-23 season looking to make strides after a 3-26 record last season. The Seahawks failed to win a conference game, going 0-18 a year ago, and enter the season with a new look staff led by head coach Tina Martin who was the all-time winningest coach at Delaware with a 408-238 record and reached several NCAA Tournaments.
Â
The Seahawks season got off to a bumpy start with a 57-46 loss to Lenoir-Rhyne on Monday in Trask Coliseum. Carrie Gross led UNCW with 19 points and nine rebounds. The team did rebound the ball fairly well with Micah Hoggatt and Evan Miller both hauling in double-digit boards with 11 and 10, respectively.
Â
Series History
The Pirates and Seahawks have a long history dating back to 1978 with over 50 games played. Through last season, ECU leads the all-time series 31-23 but it has been back-and-forth in recent years with a 10-10 record in the last 20 games played. The Pirates took the most recent game, last December in Wilmington by a 79-50 margin. It was Taniyah Thompson who led the way for ECU with 31 points in that game. No returning member of the Pirates team scored double figures in the game.
