NORFOLK, Va. – East Carolina faces its first true road test of the 2022-23 season on Saturday night when the Pirates visit Chartway Arena for a non-conference matchup with Old Dominion. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and is set to tipoff at 7 p.m.

The Pirates are coming off a 2-1 performance in the Gulf Coast Showcase, where ECU dropped its first game but bounced back to win the next two games. It was the first time the Pirates have finished with a winning record at a neutral multi-team event since 2004 when ECU finished as a runner-up to NC State in the BCA Invitational Championship.

Javon Small currently leads the Pirates and the American in scoring with 20.8 points per game and Small leads the Pirates in assists per game at 5.5. Small was named to the Gulf Coast Showcase All-Tournament Team after leading the Pirates in scoring in all three contests.

Scouting the Monarchs
Old Dominion is coming off a close 66-61 loss on Nov. 20 to Davidson in the Shriners Children's Charleston Classic. The Monarchs are led in scoring by senior forward Ben Stanley with 15.5 points per game. The Pirates and Monarchs are no strangers to each other with Old Dominion leading the all-time series 38-16. ECU was able to defeat Old Dominion twice last year with a 73-60 win on Nov. 19, 2021 and a narrow 63-62 victory at home on Nov. 30, 2021.
