GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina women's basketball will stay at home on Thursday to take on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in Minges Coliseum at 6 p.m. Tickets may be purchased here and for fans who can't make it out, the game will be available for streaming on ESPN+.
1-0 for the first time since 2018-2019, the Pirates will look to keep things rolling with a big-time opportunity against an Atlantic Coast Conference opponent.
Last Time Out
The Pirates defeated the South Carolina State Lady Bulldogs on Monday to open the season. The 71-35 victory represented the biggest blowout win since a 41-point romp against N.C. Central last season.
Four ECU players scored in double figures, five recorded three assists and Amiya Joyner led the way with eight rebounds. The team registered 20 steals while forcing a whopping total of 39 turnovers. Alexsia Rose and Tiara Chambers led the defensive efforts with five steals and three blocks, respectively.
Scouting the Demon Deacons
Wake Forest enters the 2022-23 season after a 16-17 (4-14 ACC) record a season ago. Despite winning their first seven games last year, including a win over the Pirates, things went south in the latter part of the season which included a nine-game losing streak. Wake enters the new season with a new coaching staff, led by former American University coach, Megan Gebbia, as they look to get back on the winning side of .500.
The Deacs will be led once gain by Jewel Spears who went for 23 points in their season opening win over Elon. Spear is surrounded by a strong supporting cast, including Alyssa Andrews who shot 3-3 from deep last time out and Elise Williams who led the way with four assists.
Series History
Through 12 meetings, East Carolina actually owns a 7-5 record against Wake Forest dating back to the first meeting in February 1972. More recently, the Pirates have traveled to Winston-Salem for a pair of matchups in the Kim McNeill era with the Demon Deacons taking both matchups. Coach McNeill will look to get the Pirates back on the winning side of the series when the two teams meet for the 13th time on Thursday.
Up Next
The Pirates return to action in Minges Coliseum on Thursday for a 6 p.m. tipoff against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. Tickets can be purchased here and the game will be available for streaming on ESPN+.
