GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina women's basketball team is back at home on Tuesday to take on the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks at Minges Coliseum. The game is set for a 6 p.m. tipoff on ESPN+.

Last Time Out
The Pirates got back in the win column with a dominant defensive victory over VCU last time out. The team jumped out to a 27-8 lead through a quarter of play and never looked back. Despite any Rams comeback efforts, it was not to be as in the third quarter the ECU defense took over, allowing only three points and forcing 11 turnovers. Danae McNeal led the way with 17 points while Synia Johnson put up seven points, seven rebounds and five steals.

Scouting the Hawks
The Hawks enter the contest with a 3-7 record with wins over Washington College (Md.), Virginia Union and Navy. The Virginia Union win broke up a four-game losing streak, but the reprieve was short lived as UMES dropped their last contest, on the road against the James Madison Dukes.

Two players are scoring in double figures for the Hawks in Zamara Haynes and Mya Thomas at 13.3 and 10.7 respectively. Haynes also leads the team with 21 assists and 20 steals on the year. On the glass, it has been a team effort for UMES as Ariana Seawell is the only player over five per game while eight players are averaging more than two per game.

Series History
East Carolina and UMES have met six times through their history with the Pirates taking all six contests. After a contest in 1999, the teams didn't meet again until 2016 and have since met four more times - including twice in the Kim McNeill era.
