GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina remains on the road for its third weekend of competition, heading up to Old Dominion for the Quest for the Crown tournament at the ODU Volleyball Center. In addition to the host Monarchs, the Pirates will also face Notre Dame and Navy. ECU's match against Old Dominion will stream live via ESPN+.

The Pirates were unable to find the win column at the Duke Invitational, falling 3-1 to Northeastern, in five sets to East Tennessee State and 3-0 to the host Blue Devils. Brittany Wood was tabbed to the All-Tournament Team after averaging 2.25 points and 2.00 kills per set in the three matches. She set season-high marks in kills (11) and points (11.5) Friday against the Huskies.

Currently, East Carolina ranks second among American Athletic Conference squads in aces per set (1.91) and third in opponent hitting percentage (.200) and blocks per set (2.32). Individually, Shaylynn Hall is third in blocks per set (1.10) while Alderete is sixth in points per set (4.30) and Kenzie Beckham is sixth in digs per set (3.69).

A Look At Notre Dame
Notre Dame, in its first season under head coach Salima Rockwell, has gotten off to a 1-4 start with losses to Texas Tech, Mississippi State, Boise State and Long Beach State and a five-set victory over Milwaukee. Avery Ross leads the way for the Fighting Irish offensively, having recorded 59 kills (3.11 per set), while Lucy Trump is close behind with 57 (3.17 per set). Defensively, Hattie Monson has collected 98 digs (5.16 per set) and Lauren Tarnoff checks in with 14 blocks (1.17 per set). As a team, Notre Dame is putting up 11.37 kills, 10.84 assists, 1.32 aces, 14.89 digs and 1.84 blocks per set with a .185 hitting percentage.

About Navy
Navy is 2-4 overall with wins over Rhode Island and Albany as well as setbacks to Florida Gulf Coast, Maryland, VCU and Michigan State. Sisters Jamie and Jordan Llewellyn pace the side in kills with 68 and 65, respectively while Hannah Hoover has anchored the back row to the tune of 50 digs (2.27 per set). Maggie Bodman has been a presence at the net, checking in with 1.17 blocks per set (27 total). Collectively, the Midshipmen are averaging 11.78 kills, 11.22 assists, 1.52 aces, 10.61 digs and 1.87 blocks per set with a .175 hitting percentage. Paco Labrador is in his fifth season as head coach at Navy and holds a 57-36 record at the institution.

The Navy Series
Friday's meeting between Navy and East Carolina marks the ninth in a series that began back in 1980. The squads have split the eight meetings while the Pirates emerged victorious in their last encounter with the Mids - a four-set victory at Campbell Invitational Sept. 10, 2016.

Scouting Old Dominion
Old Dominion is 2-4 so far this season with wins over Marist and Coppin State as well as losses to Michigan, Utah Tech, Northern Arizona and Virginia Tech. Myah Conway leads the way offensively with 40 kills (2.11 per set) while Jamie Bissmeyer has produced nine aces and 59 digs (2.95 per set). On the whole, the Monarchs are putting up 10.95 kills, 9.90 assists, 1.80 aces, 12.85 digs and 2.25 blocks per set and are hitting at a .121 clip. Fred Chao is the only head coach in ODU program history, taking the squad through its inaugural season of competition in the spring of 2021.  Â

Up Next
East Carolina finishes out its non-conference slate next weekend with a trip to the University of Virginia for the Jefferson Cup. The Pirates will also face Maryland and Mercer during the event.
