GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina plays its final two home matches this weekend, hosting American Athletic Conference newcomer Charlotte inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.
Â
The Pirates (18-9, 9-7 AAC) look to dispose of a five-match losing streak that has dropped them to third place in the league standings. Three of the setbacks (Rice, Tulsa and South Florida) have occurred on the road in five sets. With two victories over the 49ers, ECU can register its first 20-win season since 2017 and just the fifth in program history.
Â
East Carolina ranks second in the conference in blocks per set (2.48) as well as third in hitting percentage (.237). Individually, senior setter Julianna Askew has taken the league lead in aces per set (0.43) while sophomore middle blocker Carlia Northcross slots second in blocks per set (1.18). Preseason All-AAC selection and sophomore outside hitter Angeles Alderete checks in at ninth in kills per set (3.19) and 10th in points per set (3.63).

Scouting Charlotte
Charlotte arrives in Greenville looking to break a three-match losing streak as it fell to Florida Atlantic twice at home last weekend. The 49ers have captured just one victory in their last 12 outings - a five-set win at UAB back on Nov. 3. Charlotte ranks 14th out of 14 teams in the conference in a numbers of categories, including points per set (14.75), hitting percentage (.153), kills per set (11.05) and assists per set (10.32). Opponents are also hitting .200 - putting the 49ers eighth among league sides. Lara Kretcschmer has been a bright spot at the net, leading the AAC in blocks per set (1.21), while Sophie Whalen checks in at sixth in digs per set (4.12). Annika Westrom is also ninth in assists per set (6.58).
