Last Time Out
The Pirates gritted their way to a tough victory over the Coppin State Eagles on Saturday. Micah Dennis set the tone for the team, scoring the Pirates' first eight points on her way to a 17-point, four rebounds, four assist, two-steal outing which included a half court buzzer beater going into halftime to cut the margin to two. The team ramped up the pressure in the second half, forcing 11 turnovers in the fourth quarter alone to take the lead back and extended it for good.

Scouting UMES
The Hawks have gotten off to a strong start to the season with a 4-4 resume thus far, including wins over George Washington, UMBC and Mount St. Mary's. It was that three-game win streak which the team saw come to an end last time out, however. It was an exciting game, that contest at Seton Hall. The Hawks trailed by just two at halftime but a pair of big runs for Seton Hall in the second half doomed the effort for UMES. Still, the Hawks have three players scoring in double figures and one, Jála Bannerman, knocking at the door at 9.9 per, as well as having a trio of players averaging over five rebounds per contest. A total team effort.

Series History
The Pirates and Hawks have met seven times dating back to 1999, with East Carolina sweeping the all-time series. The most recent edition was just a season ago, a 67-41 final in Minges Coliseum. The Pirates jumped out to a 12-4 margin through a quarter in that meeting, then pulled away further in the second half to earn the 26-point victory. Danae McNeal led all scorers in that one with 17 points along with six rebounds and six steals.
