
ECU Finishes Sixth At AAC Championships

DALLAS, Texas – The East Carolina women's swimming and diving team closed out the 2023 American Athletic Conference Championships finishing in sixth place with 681 total points. The six-day event was hosted by SMU at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr McMillion Natatorium.

On Saturday, the Pirates had eight members earn finalists' status over five events. Senior Brynna Wolfe finished seventh overall in the 200-backstroke posting a time of 1:59.53 and earning 23 points. A trio of swimmers competed in the 200 breaststroke finals with senior Caitlin Reynera finishing seventh overall (A-Finals) with a time of 2:14.71 for 23 points.

Freshman Rachael Brown took 16th overall (eighth B-Finals) with a time of 2:20.45 (11 points), while fellow classmate Heidi Bruining placed 17th overall (first C-Finals) with a time of 2:16.98 (nine points).

Sophomore Laura Kellberg posted a time of 50.83 in the 100 freestyle finishing 18th overall (second C-Finals) and claiming seven points. Freshmen Emilee Hamblin (2:06.14/11 points) and Sara Kalawska (2:02.99/nine points) finished 16th (eighth B-Finals) and 17th (first C-Finals) overall in the 200 butterfly.

Rounding out the Pirates on the day was senior Polina Rukosuev who took eighth overall (A-Finals) in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 16:52.26 earning 22 points.
