
ECU Faces Georgetown Saturday In Rocky Mount

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina women's tennis team looks for its second-straight victory Saturday afternoon when it takes on Georgetown in Rocky Mount, N.C. First serve is set for 1 p.m. at the Slick Family Foundation Tennis Center.

The Pirates (2-2) split a doubleheader with host Liberty and Longwood last weekend, falling to the Flames in a tight 4-2 decision before knocking off the Lancers 4-1 to cap the afternoon.

Joan Madi won both of her singles bouts, beating Micaela Ode Mitre of Liberty 6-4, 6-4 and Wiktoria Czerny of Longwood 6-1, 6-4. ECU also took the doubles point in both matches as the duos of Ines Bachir/Alisha Hussain and Martin Muzzolon/Isabella Rivera Ortiz captured victories over their respective opponents.

Madi is 3-1 during the dual season, producing a 2-0 mark at the No. 5 position and a 1-1 record at No. 6. Muzzolon also holds a winning record in singles with a 2-1 ledger at No. 3. Bachir and Hussain lead the doubles corps having won three of four matchups.

Georgetown is 2-1 early on in 2023 with wins over Delaware State and St. Francis-Brooklyn as well as a loss to Maryland. Avantika Willy was named the BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week after posting a 6-2, 6-0 win over Kit Yi Kaye from Delaware State before continuing her strong weekend by defeating Mia Skrbinsek of St. Francis-Brooklyn 6-0, 6-2.Â
